Superconducting heterodyne receiver has played a vital role in the high resolution spectroscopy applications for astronomy and atmospheric research up to 2THz. NbN hot electron bolometer (HEB) mixer, as the most sensitive mixer above 1.5THz, has been used in the Herschel space telescope for 1.4-1.9THz and has also shown an ultra-high sensitivity up to 5.3THz. Combined a HEB mixer with a novel THz quantum cascade laser (QCL) as local oscillator (LO), such an all solid-state heterodyne receiver provides the technology which can be used for any balloon-, air- and space-borne heterodyne instruments above 2THz. Here we report the first high-resolution heterodyne spectroscopy measurement using a gas cell and using such a HEB-QCL receiver. The receiver employs a 2.9THz metal-metal waveguide QCL as LO and a NbN HEB as a mixer. By using a gas cell filled with methanol (CH3OH) gas in combination with hot/cold blackbody loads as signal source, we successfully recorded the methanol emission line around 2.918THz. Spectral lines at different pressures and also different frequency of the QCL are studied.
Based on our reconfigurable FPGA spectrometer technology, we have developed a read-out system, operating in the frequency domain, for arrays of Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors (MKIDs). The readout consists of a combination of two digital boards: A programmable DAC-/FPGA-board (tone-generator) to stimulate the MKIDs detectors and an ADC-/FPGA-unit to analyze the detectors response. Laboratory measurement show no deterioration of the noise performance compared to low noise analog mixing. Thus, this technique allows capturing several hundreds of detector signals with just one pair of coaxial cables.
Hochschulbibliotheken haben heutzutage neben der traditionellen Aufgabe der Literaturversorgung und Informationsversorgung auch die Aufgabe, über ihre Website im Internet präsent zu sein und sich dort als zentraler Informationsanbieter zu positionieren. Die Webauftritte haben dabei die Funktionen als Zugangspunkt und Vermittlungsstelle für Informationen sowie als Werbemittel bzw. Instrument der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit. Im Hinblick auf die immer stärkere Benutzerorientierung der Bibliotheken werden die Webangebote von fünf Universitätsbibliotheken und einer Fachhochschulbibliothek nach diversen Kriterien analysiert: es wird herausgearbeitet, welche Inhalte auf den Websites zu finden sind, die Struktur wird näher betrachtet, ebenso wie die Navigationsmöglichkeiten, die Sprache und Textgestaltung und das Design.
Spectral surveys provide the only way to determine the full molecular inventory of an object and hence build a comprehensive view of the state of the molecular gas and its role in star formation and the structure and evolution of the ISM. Of course spectral surveys also provide the most efficient method of identifying new and unexpected species that have to be include in the chemical networks. The most extensive and complete survey of an extragalactic system has been the continuous spectral survey from 129 GHz to 175 GHz carried out by Martín et al. (2006) toward NGC253. This first spectral line surveys at 2 mm towards the prototypical starbursts galaxies NGC253 have shown an unexpected chemical richness.

In this paper, various enhanced sales forecast methodologies and models for the automobile market are presented. The methods used deliver highly accurate predictions while maintaining the ability to explain the underlying model at the same time. The representation of the economic training data is discussed, as well as its effects on the newly registered automobiles to be predicted. The methodology mainly consists of time series analysis and classical Data Mining algorithms, whereas the data is composed of absolute and/or relative market-specific exogenous parameters on a yearly, quarterly, or monthly base. It can be concluded that the monthly forecasts were especially improved by this enhanced methodology using absolute, normalized exogenous parameters. Decision Trees are considered as the most suitable method in this case, being both accurate and explicable. The German and the US-American automobile market are presented for the evaluation of the forecast models.
Computational chemistry began with the birth of computers in the mid 1900s, and its growth has been directly coupled to the technological advances made in computer science and high-performance computing. A popular goal within the field, be it Newtonian or quantum based methods, is the accurate modelling of physical forces and energetics through mathematics and algorithm design. Through reliable modelling of the underlying forces, molecular simulations frequently provide atomistic insights into macroscopic experimental observations.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing (SCAI) has developed a software tool for the automated parameterization of force fields for molecular simulations using efficient gradient-based algorithms. This tool, combined with well-established simulation techniques, can quantitatively determine many physicochemical properties for given compounds.

Reliable multicast transport services for content delivery in heterogeneous mobile environment

For efficient deployment of new reliable multicast applications in heterogeneous mobile Internet environments, appropriate retransmission strategies are proposed. The focus is the minimization of the protocol overhead for reliable transport taking into account behaviour in mobile networks (oss and handover behaviour) and application requirements (such as carousel file transfer, one-to-many download and media streaming combined with recording). The proposed techniques are designed as building blocks for localized multicast error control supported by access routers. Considering IETF RMT standardization work, the discussed retransmission approaches can be used for flexible configuration of tree-based reliable multicast protocols in converged wired and wireless Internet environment. The implementation developed for the European project DAIDALOS [1] is based on Linux IPv6 environment. Simulations in ns2 focusing on the benefits of the proposed multicast retransmission schemes for particular application scenarios are presented.
Structural and Dynamical Properties of Polystyrene Determined by Coarse-Graining MD Simulations

We present results from a detailed study of a new, optimized coarse-grained (CG) model of polystyrene (PS) and compare it with a recently published one (Harmandaris et al., Macromolecules 2006, 39, 6708). We will explain in detail, what led us to a different mapping scheme and put that into the general framework, with special emphasis on the aspect of time mapping. The new model is tested against the structural and dynamic properties of PS, resulting from atomistic simulations.
With the rapid advances in multimedia content delivery technologies, there is an increasing challenge for efficient Quality of Service (QoS) based multicast transport in mobile Internet environment. This paper discusses architectural approach for provision of multicast services in heterogeneous mobile IPv6 environment using context transfer. Following issues of QoS based mobile multicast transport are addressed: - Application of context transfer between access routers for seamless handover of active multicast services; - Adaptation of multicast group management and routing designed for wired IPv6 infrastructures to heterogeneous mobile environment; - Candidate access router discovery and context aware user interfaces for optimised handover; - Reliable mobile multicast for content delivery supported by context transfer at access routers; - Distributed QoS management of multicast services in heterogeneous mobile environment. The work is part of the mobile architecture developed in the EU IST project DAIDALOS.
In dieser Dissertation stellen wir einen neuen Ansatz zur Modellierung von Polymersystemen vor. Es werden (von methodischer Seite her) zwei automatisierte Iterationschemata dazu eingeführt, Kraftfeldparameter mesoskopischer Polymersysteme systematisch zu optimieren: Das Simplex-Verfahren und das Struktur-Differenzen-Verfahren. So werden diejenigen Freiheitsgrade aus Polymersystemen eliminiert, die eine hohe Auflösung erfordern, was die Modellierung größerer Systeme ermöglicht. Nach Tests an einfachen Flüssigkeiten werden vergröberte Modelle von drei prototypischen Polymeren (Polyacrylsäure, Polyvinylalkohol und Polyisopren) in unterschiedlichen Umgebungen (gutes Lösungsmittel und Schmelze) entwickelt und ihr Verhalten auf der Mesoskala ausgiebig geprüft. Die zugehörige Abbildung (von physikalischer Seite her) so zu gestalten, daß sie die unverwechselbaren Charakteristiken jedes Systems auf die mesoskopische Längenskala überträgt, stellt eine entscheidende Anforderung an die automatisierten Verfahren dar.

Imagine a person navigating on the trackball of a mouse - it would need full body control. In this article we describe the Virtual Balance, an input device for a responsive virtual environment. This device is driven by weight shift on a small platform and does neither require special training nor wearing uncomfortable equipment. The Virtual Balance aims at intuitive navigation through complex 3D space. It can be used to skate or fly like on a magic carpet through a virtual world. With shifts of body posture the navigator controls speed and direction of his/her movement in the model world, which is calculated from the changing pressure on three weight cells under the platform. Different fields of application are presented, showing scenarios already realized as well as a variety of possibilities for future use.

This paper presents an overview on and reports on early experiences of the European ACTS project AC089 called „Distributed Video Production (DVP)“ which started in late 1995. Central to DVP are distributed pilot applications for professional digital video production over ATM broadband networks (LAN and WAN). Distributed video production refers to situations where the cameras, recorders, switches, mixers and other equipment used in video production (or post-production) are located at several sites linked by high bandwidth network connections. The DVP project investigates requirements of broadcasters for several forms of distributed video production and runs a series of trials of distributed virtual studios, distributed rehearsals and remote video editing and retrieval. Together with North American partners a transatlantic broadband ATM link will be tested for distributed virtual reality simulations. This paper reports about two initial tests with a German public broadcaster and the German Telekom. DVP project partners are GMD and about 20 broadcasters, computer and video equipment manufacturers, and video production companies. More information can be obtained from http://viswiz.gmd.de/DVP
